Labarai: Stories worth telling

About the Festival

The Bayero University Storytelling Festival is a groundbreaking cultural and literary event that celebrates the power of spoken narratives to inspire, educate, and connect communities. Founded in January 2023, it is the first student-led live storytelling festival hosted within a Nigerian university, giving a vibrant platform to young voices with powerful stories to tell.

Launched at the historic Mahmud Tukur Theatre on Bayero University Kano’s Old Campus, the inaugural edition drew over 500 participants and featured 25 storytellers from across disciplines. Through compelling performances, the festival sparked dialogue around identity, culture, and social change—firmly establishing itself as a creative force within Northern Nigeria’s cultural landscape.
